This commercial playground project at Knox Gardens Reserve, Wantirna was delivered for Knox City Council and features a Fortitude Range playground designed for active, all-ages community use. Located alongside large sporting ovals, the playground supports families, local sporting clubs and visitors, with nearby picnic tables and seating encouraging longer stays and social interaction within the reserve.

Design and layout

The playground layout is anchored by a large Fortitude combination unit, creating a strong central play destination within the open park setting. Surrounding elements have been positioned to allow clear sightlines and safe circulation between activities, making the space easy to supervise and welcoming for families.

The design responds to the scale of the reserve, balancing robust play structures with open areas for movement and gathering, while fitting naturally into the broader recreational landscape.

Play Elements

The Fortitude combination unit delivers a high level of physical play, incorporating climbing, elevated platforms and slides to support strength, coordination and confidence-building play. A standalone cubby adds imaginative and social play opportunities, offering a quieter space alongside the more active elements.

The swing zone includes both a bird’s nest swing and a traditional double swing, providing inclusive play options for different ages and abilities and supporting shared play experiences within the community setting.
