Playground Manufacturing in Australia

Australian-made playground equipment, manufactured in-house for long-term performance, reliability and reduced lifecycle costs.

At Activity Playgrounds, we manage our process in-house across our Victorian facilities to maintain control over quality, consistency and compliance.

Design and steel fabrication begin at our Wandin facility, before components move through Monbulk for finishing, timber preparation, assembly and project coordination.

Local manufacturing reduces reliance on imports, supports efficient lead times and gives us greater control across every stage of a project.

By focusing on durable materials, robust construction and considered manufacturing processes, we help reduce maintenance requirements and extend the lifecycle of every playground we build.

Go Behind the Scenes

Reading about our manufacturing process is one thing. Seeing it is another.

Follow our Inside the Making series as we take you behind the scenes, from concept and design through to installation, all managed in-house across our Victorian facilities.

Design & Engineering

More Control. Less Waste. Better Outcomes.

Every successful playground begins long before manufacturing starts.

Working closely with councils, schools and landscape architects, our team develops designs that balance play value, functionality, durability and visual impact.

Using detailed CAD modelling, engineering and high-quality renders, we refine each concept before production begins.

Why In-House Manufacturing?

More Control. Less Waste. Better Outcomes.

Manufacturing in-house gives us complete control over how our playgrounds are made, from raw materials through to final assembly.

It also allows us to operate more responsibly.

By manufacturing locally in Victoria, we reduce reliance on imported components, minimise transport distances and maintain tighter control over materials, processes and quality.

This approach supports:

• Reduced freight and transport impact
• More efficient material use and less waste
• Faster turnaround times with fewer delays
• Greater consistency across every project

Because our design, fabrication and finishing processes are aligned under one roof, we can deliver playgrounds that are not only built to last, but built with purpose.

Steel Fabrication & Structural Strength

Built from Steel That Lasts

Steel plays a critical role in the strength and longevity of our playgrounds.

We fabricate structural components in-house using galvanised steel, designed to withstand high-use environments and harsh Australian conditions.

Steel is also one of the most recyclable materials available, making it a responsible choice for long-term public infrastructure.

Our fabrication process includes:

• Cutting, forming and welding structural components in-house
• Preparing and finishing steel to resist corrosion
• Designing for durability and long service life

By focusing on long-lasting materials and robust construction, we reduce the need for replacement and ongoing resource use over time.

Powdercoating & Finishes

Durability meets design.

All steel components are professionally powdercoated in-house, allowing us to:

• Maintain strict quality control
• Offer custom colour selections
• Ensure a consistent finish across projects
• Protect against corrosion and UV exposure

From subtle natural palettes to bold active colour schemes, your chosen finish is applied with precision and care.

Finishing, Protection & Preparation

Before components leave our Monbulk facility, they move through the final stages of finishing, protection and preparation.

From powder coating and timber finishing through to small assemblies and quality control, every component is carefully prepared before heading to site.

Timber & Natural Elements

Environmentally Considered. Structurally Reliable.

Where timber is used, we prioritise materials that balance environmental responsibility with long-term performance.

We utilise Queensland Cypress (Callitris glaucophylla), a naturally durable Australian species that is visually graded to F7 or above in accordance with Australian Standards. This ensures consistent structural performance while maintaining a high-quality finish.

Our approach to timber focuses on:

• Sourcing timber in line with Australian standards and regulated supply chains
• Selecting structurally graded material for strength and consistency
• Using a species known for natural durability and resistance to decay and termites
• Applying protective oil finishes to extend lifespan and reduce maintenance

Choosing durable, long-lasting materials is a key part of reducing environmental impact. Timber that performs over time reduces the need for replacement, minimising resource use and waste.

By combining responsibly selected timber with galvanised steel, we create playgrounds that sit naturally within their environment while maintaining the structural integrity required for public use.

Rope & Play Element Assembly

Climbing elements require accuracy.

Our team assembles steel-reinforced rope components in-house, using specialised pressing equipment to secure and wrap steel ends for safety and longevity.

This hands-on approach ensures:

• Safe terminations
• Long-lasting performance
• Consistent tension and durability

It’s the detail that makes the difference in high-activity environments.

INSTALLATION

The final stage is where months of planning, design and manufacturing come together.

Watch how our installation team transforms individual components into a finished playground.

Quality Control & Compliance

Consistency You Can Rely On

Quality is maintained through every stage of our process.

Because manufacturing is handled in-house, we’re able to monitor materials, fabrication and finishing closely, ensuring consistency across every project.

Our approach includes:

• Inspection of components throughout production
• Alignment with Australian Standards
• Coordination between design, manufacturing and installation teams
• Immediate resolution of any issues before equipment leaves our facility

All equipment is designed to meet and exceed relevant Australian Standards, supporting safe, compliant and reliable play environments.

This level of control reduces risk, avoids rework and ensures every playground performs as intended.

Built for Australian Conditions

Every playground is designed, manufactured and finished to perform in Australia’s demanding outdoor environments.

Managing the entire process in-house allows us to maintain quality and consistency from the factory floor through to final installation.
