A Vision for Learning Beyond the Classroom

The Knox School approached Activity Playgrounds to create a custom play environment for their Junior School that would encourage safe risk-taking, build resilience, and support their educational philosophy of learning through exploration.

The brief focused on creating a play space that challenged students both physically and mentally, while maintaining safety through thoughtful design and materials. The result is a playground that seamlessly blends adventure with education, encouraging children to test their limits, collaborate, and grow in confidence.

Designed for Active, Courageous Play

Our team collaborated closely with The Knox School to bring this vision to life through a design that balances height, challenge, and imagination. The Wedge Tail Nest from our Fortitude Range takes centre stage, with its elevated platforms and multiple access points encouraging children to test their limits and develop coordination, balance, and strength.

The design encourages exploration and cooperation, allowing children to make choices, take calculated risks, and build confidence as they navigate the structure. The open layout ensures easy supervision while maintaining a sense of independence and adventure for young learners.

Play with Purpose

Every element of this playground was chosen to encourage growth in knowledge, skill, and character. The Wedge Tail Nest offers a variety of climbing, sliding, and balancing activities that challenge physical ability while promoting social and emotional development.

Students are encouraged to engage with one another, collaborate, and celebrate their achievements — whether it’s reaching the top of the structure, helping a friend, or trying something new. This playground supports The Knox School’s philosophy of safe risk-taking, teaching children to approach challenges with confidence, curiosity, and courage.
