Project Overview

Kemp Reserve Playground provides a simple but engaging play destination for the local Mount Evelyn community. Designed to suit the reserve’s relaxed neighbourhood setting, the playground offers a variety of play opportunities for children of different ages while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding natural environment.

Community feedback helped shape the final design, with a focus on nature-inspired play, opportunities for physical activity, inclusive features and spaces where families can gather and spend time together.

Design & Layout

The playground has been designed around a collection of standalone play elements that encourage movement, exploration and social interaction.

Rather than relying on a large central structure, the layout creates multiple play experiences throughout the space. Children can swing, climb, balance, slide and glide between elements, encouraging active play while allowing the playground to comfortably fit within the reserve setting.

The equipment features a natural colour palette of deep greens, soft greys and earthy tones that complements the surrounding environment. Timber logs and boulder edging help connect the play space to its location while creating additional informal play opportunities.

The result is a playground that feels welcoming, accessible and well suited to everyday use by local families.

Play Elements

The playground offers a mix of active, social and inclusive play experiences suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities.

Key features include:

  • Triple swing with bird’s nest, toddler and standard swing seats
  • Monkey bars for upper body strength and coordination
  • Junior slide platform
  • The Sky Rail introduces the excitement of flying fox-style play while fitting comfortably within the scale of the reserve.


Together, these features create a versatile local playground that encourages movement, confidence building and everyday outdoor play.
