Harley Hammond Reserve Playspace, Broadford

A custom-designed playground bringing inclusive, imaginative and adventurous play.

Project Overview

Project overview

Harley Hammond Reserve in Broadford has been enhanced with a new community playspace designed to provide more opportunities for play, recreation and social connection. Delivered as part of a broader upgrade to the reserve, the playground caters to children of varying ages and play styles while complementing the surrounding sporting and community facilities.

At the heart of the playground is a custom-designed Fortitude play unit, developed and built specifically to meet the client’s brief. Supported by swings, climbing elements, a spinner, rocker and nature play features, it creates a varied play experience that encourages active movement, exploration, imaginative play and interaction between children.

Design and layout

The playground has been designed around a custom multi-level Fortitude tower, which forms the central focus of the space. Developed specifically in response to the client’s brief, the tower combines elevated platforms, climbing challenges and multiple slide experiences, providing varied ways for children to move through and explore the structure.

Supporting play elements are arranged around the tower to broaden the range of activities available. Swings, a basket swing, spinner and rocker introduce different movement and social play experiences, while nature play features encourage exploration and more open-ended play. Seating provides comfortable places for families and carers to pause nearby.

Positioned alongside the reserve’s netball courts and sporting facilities, the playspace forms part of the wider recreation precinct and gives families a dedicated place to gather and play during sporting and community activities.

Play Elements

The playground brings together elevated, active and ground-level play experiences, giving children different ways to climb, slide, swing, spin and explore. Each supporting element complements the custom Fortitude tower, creating a varied environment that encourages physical challenge, imaginative play and shared experiences.
